Police storm Edo Assembly

Operatives of the Nigeria Police on Thursday took over the Edo State House of Assembly complex in Benin City.

The security officials stormed the complex while patrol vehicles were stationed around the area.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Ayoola Ajala, led the operation, which is ongoing.

It was gathered that the move was to forestall an alleged planned attack on the facility.

News had it that the Edo State House of Assembly Speaker, Hon. Francis Okiye had on Wednesday revealed that a sitting governor is plotting to forcefully take over the State Assembly.

Speaking on Wednesday during plenary, Okiye alleged that stakeholders in his party  (APC) were set to use a fake mace to take over the Assembly.

While calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently call the governor to desist from the plot, the speaker said the plan is in cahoots with the former deputy speaker, Assemblyman Yekini Idaiye, who recently declared support for the candidate of the APC.

This online news platform had earlier reported that the Assembly impeached Deputy Speaker, Yekini Idiaye.

He was impeached during a plenary session of the Assembly in Benin City.

The impeachment of the Edo Deputy Speaker is coming a month and few days to the Edo 2020 election slated for September 19.
